Glu Reviews: Black Chicken Remedies Axilla Deodorant Paste Barrier Booster

Ah, summer’s here. Lots of fun under the sun with a stinky enemy that always lurks around - body odour. We’ve all been there, from elevator rides that assault your nose to that smelly “walk by” on the streets. There’s no avoiding it with the jaw-dropping temperatures of Dubai summers. If your nose is anywhere as sensitive as mine, you won’t just be concerned about a rando’s BO, you’ll be paranoid about your own too.

My nose isn’t the only thing that’s sensitive, my skin is too. Which means regular deodorants that you find in supermarket aisles are a death sentence for my underarms. I’ve probably tried them all, from perfumed aerosols to the good ol’ stick, and I know for a fact that they don’t work for me. From blocked sweat glands to discoloured clothes, I’ve learnt my lesson the hard way. This experience also made me start using more products made from natural ingredients since it’s better for my skin.

So, you can imagine my intrigue at the Black Chicken Remedies Axilla Deodorant Paste. The Barrier Booster is specifically formulated for sensitive skin. Considering my not-so-pleasant past with deodorants, I decided to put it to the ultimate test. Me.

Using it over the course of two weeks, I’ll be dishing my thoughts about this all-natural deodorant below.

The Lowdown

A deodorant paste for sensitive skin that’s made from all-natural, certified organic ingredients and has a refreshing citrus scent. No bicarb, aluminium salts or sweat blockers. Vegan and cruelty-free.

First Impression

It comes in a compact tub that makes it easy to travel with if needed. You can smell it as soon as you open it up. It looks like it has a lot of texture but when I scoop out a tiny amount using my finger it melts, leaving behind a colourless residue.

The Good

This is probably one of the cleanest ingredients lists I’ve seen for a deodorant. No fillers, alcohols, parabens or synthetic fragrances. The essential oils and plant extracts get rid of BO without causing harm to your skin or clothes.

The Unexpected

It’s supposed to have a citrus scent but it smells more herbal, not unpleasant just different to what I was expecting. It also doesn’t come with a spatula or any tool that helps you take it out of the tub. While I don’t mind applying it with my fingers, it leaves behind a residue that requires a thorough washing to remove.

The Final Verdict

Well, I’m hooked. The formulation didn’t irritate my skin or stain my clothes (which is a MAJOR win in my opinion) and I felt fresh all day. You only need to use a pea-sized amount for each armpit and with the amount of product you get, it’ll last a few months.
